Presidents' Day 2022
What a memorable image the Idiot in the white house may have provided for the celebration of past presidents, the holiday only furniture stores and postal workers seem to notice anymore. Over the weekend it was reported that “temporary” fencing will go back up around the capitol in advance of his delayed state of the union speech on March 1. Apparently security experts are afraid of a convergence of truckers on Washington, D.C. As Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) noted, “all 535 members of Congress will be permitted to gather together, and yet the U.S. Capitol and Senate office buildings remain closed to the American people?” Photos seem to show fence panels without last year’s razor wire at least, but it is still early.
This is, and never was OK. There is a suggestion that Republicans ask Winsome Sears, the lieutenant governor of Virginia, to deliver the party’s rebuttal to Mr. Biden’s speech. I think it is a perfect choice, but the governor of Iowa should be good, too. I have an opening line suggestion for her should the barriers be up again as planned - “Mr. Biden, Speaker Pelosi, tear down this fence.”
Since Pelosi will so magnanimously allow all the members of Congress to attend this year. Instead of theatrically ripping up copies of the speech those in opposition, like Senators Rubio and Cotton, are starting to announce they will boycott the event because of the masking requirement. I would be more impressed if they cited the fencing, but okay. The citizens of this country must be again allowed in OUR house. Even Nancy seems to grasp this as she claims the fencing going up is not her decision. The Secretary of Defense is sending in 700 unarmed National Guard members to keep the capitol city safe from ascending truckers, already causing DC workers to be sent home from work early.
Perhaps on March 1 jumbo screens could be set up outside the fenced off area where opposition party members and protesting truckers could safely follow the proceedings of THEIR government without being attacked by the secret service or capitol police. Of course, they should expect to see roaming FBI agents in the crowd. So my suggestion is to remain calm and non-violent. Biden and Pelosi would credit the barriers, their protectors, and prudent policies, no doubt. Watch as Schumer claps like a trained seal on the sidelines.
Pay attention, voters! See what you get when you don’t? We have been slipping into clown show territory for a while. How can there still be any doubt that we have arrived?
