Every time I read about a new self-inflicted stupid move coming out of the Biden White House I think of Yosemite Sam and realize how much of my world view was shaped by Buggs Bunny and friends. The creators really pegged human archetypes, from scheming Sylvester to the loyal sheepdog, Ralph. Haven't we known them all at some point? They coexist and each enjoys life thank to the others. Humor is araison d’etre that makes things all the more poignant and delightful. The cartoons were entertaining for a kid, and even introduced things like classical music and political theory (a bit too heavy-handed during the war, perhaps), but it wasn't until later that the window into the human condition became apparent. They have spanned the ages for me. I don't recall when I saw my first one, but by the time I was 5 or 6 I was watching them at least once a week and my children did, also. I must often be reminded of the plot for most movies and books, but I just pulled up the name of the obscure sheepdog character from deep memory. Looney Tunes had staying power because it tapped into social truth.
